Privacy Policy
Last updated: 24 May 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Binary Beam Innovations collects, uses, and protects information in connection with the AssetSnap macOS app and the AssetSnap website. AssetSnap is privacy-respecting by design.
1. Summary
AssetSnap is built to collect as little as possible. The app has no user accounts, sends us no telemetry, and runs no analytics. Your licence is stored locally on your device. We only process personal data when you purchase a licence (through our payment provider, Polar) or when you contact us. We do not sell your personal data.
2. Who we are
Binary Beam Innovations ("Binary Beam", "we", "us"), a sole proprietorship, provides the AssetSnap macOS application (the "App") and the website at assetsnap.binarybeam.net (the "Site"), and is the controller of the personal data described in this Policy. You can reach us at [email protected]. Payments are handled by our merchant of record, Polar, which acts as an independent controller for the purchase and payment data it collects.
3. Information we collect
- App usage: The App does not create accounts and does not send analytics or telemetry to us. When you use a feature that fetches assets (image placeholders, photos, avatars, or icons), your device makes a request directly to the relevant third-party provider — we do not receive or log those requests.
- Licensing & activation: When you activate a licence, limited data is stored locally and exchanged with Polar to validate your key, including your licence key, a per-device identifier and label (such as your device name and macOS version), the app version, and the customer email associated with your purchase.
- Purchases: Payments are processed by Polar as merchant of record. We receive order and licence information from Polar (such as your name, email, plan, and licence status). We never receive or store your full payment card details.
- Support: If you use the support form or email us, we collect your name, email address, and the contents of your message. Support email is delivered through our email provider, Resend.
- Website logs: Our hosting provider may automatically log standard technical data (such as IP address, browser type, and timestamps) for security, reliability, and abuse prevention.
4. How we use information
We use the information above to deliver and validate licences, operate the App and Site, respond to support requests, prevent fraud and abuse, maintain security, comply with our legal obligations, and improve our products.
5. Legal bases for processing
Where the EU/UK GDPR applies, we rely on: performance of a contract (providing the App and your licence); our legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention, and improving our products); your consent (for example, when you contact us); and compliance with legal obligations (such as keeping tax and purchase records).
6. Sharing and sub-processors
We share personal data only as needed with service providers who process it on our behalf, and only for the purposes described here:
- Polar (Polar Software Inc.) — payments, checkout, and licence management, acting as our merchant of record.
- Resend — delivery of support and transactional emails.
- Our hosting and content-delivery provider — serving the Site.
- Third-party asset APIs (placehold.co, picsum.photos, DiceBear, and Iconify) — contacted directly by your device when you use those features.
7. What we don't do
We do not sell or rent your personal data. We do not use advertising networks or cross-site tracking. We do not build advertising profiles about you.
8. International transfers
Your information may be processed in countries other than the one in which you live, including by the providers listed above. Where required by law, we and our providers rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
9. Data retention
We keep personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Policy or as required by law (for example, purchase and tax records). Support correspondence is kept for a reasonable period so we can handle follow-ups.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, and to data portability. To exercise any of these, email [email protected]. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. For purchase-related data, you can manage your details and deactivate devices in the Polar customer portal.
11. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data. Your licence is stored locally on your device, and the App communicates with Polar over encrypted connections. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. Children
AssetSnap is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
13. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes may be highlighted on the Site.
